MANDELA IN "SATISFACTORY CONDITION" AFTER OPERATION

Johannesburg (CNN) -- South African anti- apartheid icon Nelson Mandela successfully underwent hernia surgery Saturday, a family member told CNN Saturday. Mandela was "comfortable" and in "a satisfactory condition" Saturday, said the South African president, who referred to the medical event only as "a planned procedure." The 93-year-old likely will be discharged within the next two days, a Mandela relative told CNN. Considered the founding father of South Africa's democracy, Mandela became an international figure when he endured 27 years in prison for fighting racial segregation. He was freed in 1990, and three years later, he and then-South African President F.W. de Klerk won the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1994, Mandela was elected president, serving only one term as he had promised. On Saturday, President Jacob Zuma said Mandela was being treated for a "longstanding abdominal complaint." The president referred to Mandela by his affectionate clan name Madiba. "Madiba is fine and fully conscious and the doctors are satisfied with his condition, which they say is consistent with his age," Zuma said in a statement Saturday afternoon. "He was in good health before admission in hospital but doctors felt the complaint needed a thorough investigation. He underwent a diagnostic procedure as part of his ongoing medical management. We are happy that he is not in any danger and thank the doctors for their hard work and professionalism," Zuma said. A government official assured the public that Mandela's hospital stay was not an emergency. "People need not panic. This was planned ... Mandela has had abdominal pains for sometime," said Keith Khoza, a spokesman for the ruling African National Congress. Officials and family declined to name the hospital where the former president is undergoing treatment. Mandela last appeared in public in the closing ceremonies of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He was hospitalized last year for treatment of an acute respiratory infection, and continued to receive treatment at home after doctors discharged him. Despite his rare appearances, Mandela retains his popularity and is considered a hero of democracy here. He spent 27 years in prison after being convicted of sabotage and attempts to overthrow the former apartheid regime. In a life fighting the racism of apartheid he went from being considered a terrorist to jailed freedom fighter to nation builder to elder statesman respected in the world's capitals. Clint Eastwood's 2009 film "Invictus," starring Morgan Freeman as Mandela, dramatizes Mandela's nation-healing presidency in the 1990s. Mandela relocated to his childhood town of Qunu last year, but moved back to his Johannesburg home earlier this year. At the time, Zuma said the move was because the home in his boyhood town was undergoing maintenance. HONDURAS: FIRE KILLS 300 PRISONERS IN JAIL

A massive fire has swept through a jail in Honduras, killing at least 300 prisoners, officials say. Many victims were burned or suffocated to death in their cells at the jail in Comayagua, in central Honduras. The officials say at least 300 are confirmed dead, but a further 56 inmates, out of the 853 in the prison, are missing and presumed dead. An inquiry is under way whether the blaze was caused by rioting or an electrical fault. Relatives of suspected victims later tried to force their way into the prison, desperate for news. Police responded by firing shots into the air and tear gas. 'Hellish' scenes The fire broke out late on Tuesday night and took more than an hour to be brought under control. Dozens of prisoners died trapped in their cells and were burned beyond recognition. Comayagua firefighters' spokesman Josue Garcia said there were "hellish" scenes at the prison and that desperate inmates had rioted in a bid to escape the flames. "We couldn't get them out because we didn't have the keys and couldn't find the guards who had them," he said. Lucy Marder, who heads the forensic services in Comayagua, said that 356 people on the prison roster were unaccounted for. . "The majority could be dead, though others could have suffered burns, escaped or survived," Ms Marder said. It was feared many inmates had fled the prison in Comayagua, about 100km (60 miles) north of the capital Tegucigalpa. Amid the confusion, relatives gathered outside the prison to try to get information. "I'm looking for my brother. We don't know what's happened to him and they won't let us in," Arlen Gomez told Honduran radio. Local hospitals are treating dozens of people for burns and other injuries. Some of the injured have been taken to Tegucigalpa for treatment, among them 30 people with severe burns. Firefighters said they had struggled to enter the prison because shots had been fired. Honduran media reported that there had been a riot in the prison before the fire broke out. Prison service head Daniel Orellana denied this. "We have two hypotheses. One is that a prisoner set fire to a mattress and the other one is that there was a short-circuit in the electrical system," he was quoted as saying by Reuters. Prisons in Honduras, which has the world's highest murder rate, are often seriously overcrowded and hold many gang members.

We were too many of us on line and the guy kept on wasting time on top of the prostitute,” said an eye-witness, identified only as James. And in Chawama as well as Kalingalinga, TIP correspondents say only a handful of prostitutes were made to serve tens of Chipolopolo fans. But another soccer fan who claims not to have taken part in the ‘mass servicing’ of prostitutes said the development was unfortunate. Mike Tembo suspected that many young people might have contracted the HIV virus and other STIs during the ‘sexual celebration. ’ “I think when Zambia plays the final, free condoms need to be provided so that we can protect our young men. Many of them had sex with the prostitutes without condoms,” Tembo said. Zambia’s win over Ghana sent the whole Zambia into wild celebration. Soccer fans celebrated the win in all manner of ways. Fortunately, no deaths were recorded at the time this story was published. Coach Herve Renard said that he was happy that Zambia has told the world through the beating of the Black stars that Ghana are still toddlers. “We’ve won and I am very happy. At least we’ve shown the world that Ghana are toddlers,” Renard said. He added that Zambia will now be aiming at beating Ivory Coast on February 12. Ghana paid the penalty as Asamoah Gyan saw a penalty saved before Zambia scored with their only attack of the second half in a 1-0 win in their African Cup of Nations semi-final in a sodden Bata. Zambia substitute Emmanuel Mayuka completed a smash-and-grab victory for the Chipolopolo boys as he tucked the ball beyond Ghana keeper Adam Kwarasey from 22 yards on 79 minutes to complete a miserable day for the 2010 World Cup quarter- finalists. Zambia will return to the Gabon capital of Libreville for the final, 19 years after the fallen heroes were tragically wiped out when a plane crashed heading towards Dakar for a World Cup qualifier with Senegal in 1993. CHURCH OF ENGLAND OPPOSED TO SAME SEX CIVIL PARTNERSHIP CEREMONIES:NO APOLOGY FROM CAMERON

The Church of England has come out in opposition of members of their clergy consecrating the union of the same sex.
The govenment announce this week that it would allow same sex couples hold commitment ceremonies in churches starting next month.
In explaining the new regulation Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone was quoted by BBC as saying:
"The government is advancing equality for LGB(lesbian, gay & bisexual) people and ensuring freedom of religion for people of all faith"
Featherstone stated that no religious body would be forced to host the ceremonies, but that there was the option to those who wanted to "opt-in"
The spokes person of church of England says "We will study the draft regulations as a matter of urgency to check they deliver firm assurances that have been given to us and others that new arrangements will operate by the way of denominational opt-in"
The spokes person further emphasized the church's position by stating "The Church of England has no intention of allowing civil partnership to be registed in its churches"
Also the Catholic Bishops Conference of England & Wales also registered its opposition to the plan. Nothing prior consent element of the measure, its statement suggests that such consent would never be granted in the first place.
"As the regulations require prior consent, the measure can have no direct impact on Catholic premises". It said
The house of Boshops, last statement which is referenced, views marriage as a "gift of God" an ordiance through which "commited permanent and legally sanctioned relationship between a man and woman, is central to the stability and healtg of human society.
Furthermore there is no any excuse from PM David Cameron about Afican countries to respect gays rights as a means of getting aids as he generalize them in human rights and that is their party agenda.

Waziri huyo pia ametishia kuzipunguzia misaada Uganda inayopata £70million kila mwaka na Ghana £36million toka nchini humo kwakuwa wamekuwa wakipinga ushoga bila woga. Msemaji wa Waziri huyo pia alitoa kauli kali katika kusisitiza hilo akisema " Serikali yetu imejipanga kuhakikisha kuwa vitendo vya kihalifu na unyanyasaji dhidi ya mashoga, wasagaji, watu wenye jinsia mbili na walipandikizwa jinsi tofauti na walizozaliwa nazo vinadhibitiwa na haki zao kutambuliwa katika jamii ndani na nje ya Uingereza" aliendelea kusisitiza akisema "Sasa tutaelekeza misaada yetu kwa wale watakaozingatia hili na tutakuwa tukitoa misaada kila baada ya miezi mitatu na sio kwa mwaka mzima kama ilivyokuwa awali jambo ambalo litatuwezesha kupitia kwa umakini kufuatwa kwa haki hizo. Tutaelekeza misaada ya moja kwa moja pale tutakaporidhika kuwa nchi za Afrika zinafuata masharti yetu ya kupunguza umaskini na kuheshimu haki za binadamu".
