ASAMOAH GYAN QUITS INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

Asamoah Gyan has decided to take an "indefinite break" from international football. The Black Stars key man sent a letter to the Ghanaian Football Association late on Friday night informing them of his decision, which had the "full support of family and friends". The 26-year-old has been capped 59 times by his country. He cited the "intolerable" abuse he has been subjected to following the Black Stars exit from the recent African Cup of Nations. The player has been at the butt end of serious critique from his countrymen, who have blamed him for repeatedly causing them heartache, after missing penalties in the African Cup against Zambia and a previous one against Uruguay. According to Gyan has said that is was "not a the decision lightly" to end his international career for the time being. He said it had been "an incredible honour" to represent his country having made his debut as a 17-year-old in 2003. The striker, on-loan at Al Ain from Premier League club Sunderland, concludes his letter, according to source at the Ghanaian FA, by stating he will notify the them when, and if, he wishes to return in the future. Napenda nisisitize mapema kabisa kuwa msimamo huo wa Jeshi la Polisi umenikera sana katika hali niliyonayo ya ugonjwa, kwanza kwa kuingilia mchakato wa matibabu yangu na uchunguzi wa kina kuhusu kiini chake unaoendelea hospitali ya Apollo nchini India ambako bado sijahitimisha matibabu yangu; pili kwa ufinyu wa uelewa unaojitokeza bayana kwenye tamko la Jeshi la Polisi unaosisitiza kuwa “sikunyweshwa sumu” wakati sumu si lazima unyweshwe ili ikudhuru, inaweza kudhuru hata kwa kugusishwa tu; na tatu kwa Jeshi la Polisi kujiingiza kwenye suala ambalo kwa takriban mwaka mzima halijawahi kuwa na dhamira ya dhati ya kulielewa au kulichunguza mbali na kulifanyia mzaha kupitia magazetini. Itakumbukwa kuwa tarehe 9 Februari, 2011 nilimwandikia barua IGP Said Mwema kumtaarifu kuhusu njama za kuondoa maisha yangu na ya viongozi wengine. Kwa kutambua kuwa Jeshi la Polisi la Tanzania daima husisitiza kuletewa ushahidi kwanza ndipo lifanyekazi, nilihakikisha nimeainisha katika barua hiyo kila ushahidi nilioupata au kupewa. (Utaratibu huu wa Jeshi la Polisi kusubiri kuletewa ushahidi mezani, kama ambavyo mahakimu wanavyosubiri ushahidi mahakamani, haupo popote pale duniani (ila Tanzania tu) kwani kazi ya msingi ya Polisi si kuletewa, ni kutafuta ushahidi. Polisi wanachohitaji duniani kote ni kupata clue au tetesi tu. Hiyo inatosha kufukua ushahidi wote unaohitajika). Pamoja na kujitahidi kuanika kila aina ya ushahidi niliokuwa nao, mambo manne yalijitokeza ambayo yalionyesha wazi kuwa Polisi hawakuwa na dhamira ya dhati ya kupeleleza suala hilo: (i) Siku chache baada ya kumkabidhi IGP barua hiyo, nilitumiwa timu ya “wapelelezi” ofisini kwangu kuja kuchukua maelezo yangu ya ziada. Timu hiyo ilikuwa inaongozwa na ACP Mkumbo, afisa wa polisi ambaye wiki chache zilizokuwa zimepita alikuwa miongoni mwa askari waliotuhumiwa kupokea rushwa kwa lengo la kumbambikizia madawa ya kulevya mtoto wa Mwenyekiti wa IPP, Reginald Mengi, suala ambalo mpaka leo hii uongozi wa Polisi umeshindwa kulitolea maelezo ya kuridhisha. Kwa msingi huo, nilikuwa nimeletewa mtuhumiwa wa rushwa/ ujambazi kuendesha uchunguzi wa watuhumiwa wengine wa ujambazi! Nikatambua mara moja kuwa zoezi zima lilikuwa la mzaha, tena mzaha mkubwa! (ii) Wiki chache baada ya barua yangu kuwasilishwa kwa IGP na timu ya ACP Mkumbo “kuanza kazi”, Jeshi la Polisi likachukua hatua ya kuwapongeza na kuwazawadia askari niliowatuhumu kushirikiana na majambazi! Huhitaji kuwa profesa wa falsafa kuelewa kuwa huo ulikuwa ujumbe tosha wa kunipuuza. (iii) Hivi karibuni tuhuma za askari polisi kujihusisha na vitendo vya ujambazi mkoani Morogoro zilipopamba moto na kuwagusa askari “wale wale” niliowatuhumu kwenye barua yangu, IGP alichukua hatua ya kuwahamishia mikoa mingine! (iv) ili kunikatisha tamaa kabisa, barua yangu ya “siri” kwa IGP ikavujishwa kwa makusudi kwenye vyombo vya habari na kuchapishwa kama habari ambayo ilikebehi na kukanusha taarifa nzima niliyotoa, sijui kwa faida ya nani! Lakini huu ni mchezo wa kawaida kwa polisi kwani hivi karibuni Mhe. Si ni polisi hawahawa ambao, badala ya kushukuru, wamekuwa wakikerwa na tahadhari ambazo Waziri Sitta amekuwa akitoa ili suala hili lichunguzwe kwa kina? Aidha napata taabu kuamini kama DCI Manumba na wenzake waliisoma taarifa halisi ya matatibabu yangu au walisoma taarifa “nyingine”, na kama waliisoma taarifa hiyo wenyewe au “walisomewa”! Nasema hivyo kwa kuwa alichokisema DCI Manumba kwa wandishi wa habari hakifanani kabisa na picha iliyo kwenye taarifa halisi ya Apollo ambayo inatamka wazi kuwa kuna kitu kwenye bone marrow kinachochochea hali niliyonayo, kitu ambacho mabingwa wanahangaikia kukijua, kukidhibiti / kukiondoa huku vyombo vyetu vya dola vikipelekeshwa na mafisadi kusema bila msingi wa kisayansi wala aibu: “hakulishwa sumu”, “hakulishwa sumu”! HONDURAS: FIRE KILLS 300 PRISONERS IN JAIL

A massive fire has swept through a jail in Honduras, killing at least 300 prisoners, officials say. Many victims were burned or suffocated to death in their cells at the jail in Comayagua, in central Honduras. The officials say at least 300 are confirmed dead, but a further 56 inmates, out of the 853 in the prison, are missing and presumed dead. An inquiry is under way whether the blaze was caused by rioting or an electrical fault. Relatives of suspected victims later tried to force their way into the prison, desperate for news. Police responded by firing shots into the air and tear gas. 'Hellish' scenes The fire broke out late on Tuesday night and took more than an hour to be brought under control. Dozens of prisoners died trapped in their cells and were burned beyond recognition. Comayagua firefighters' spokesman Josue Garcia said there were "hellish" scenes at the prison and that desperate inmates had rioted in a bid to escape the flames. "We couldn't get them out because we didn't have the keys and couldn't find the guards who had them," he said. Lucy Marder, who heads the forensic services in Comayagua, said that 356 people on the prison roster were unaccounted for. . "The majority could be dead, though others could have suffered burns, escaped or survived," Ms Marder said. It was feared many inmates had fled the prison in Comayagua, about 100km (60 miles) north of the capital Tegucigalpa. Amid the confusion, relatives gathered outside the prison to try to get information. "I'm looking for my brother. We don't know what's happened to him and they won't let us in," Arlen Gomez told Honduran radio. Local hospitals are treating dozens of people for burns and other injuries. Some of the injured have been taken to Tegucigalpa for treatment, among them 30 people with severe burns. Firefighters said they had struggled to enter the prison because shots had been fired. Honduran media reported that there had been a riot in the prison before the fire broke out. Prison service head Daniel Orellana denied this. "We have two hypotheses. One is that a prisoner set fire to a mattress and the other one is that there was a short-circuit in the electrical system," he was quoted as saying by Reuters. Prisons in Honduras, which has the world's highest murder rate, are often seriously overcrowded and hold many gang members.
